The creation of fiber-optic communication lines is associated with the need to form a large number of detachable connectors and one-piece splices. Welding is the main technology for forming a permanent joint. A prerequisite for the high quality of this line component is the presence of a smooth end surface of the fiber optic fibers perpendicular to the axis. To obtain it, special technological devices are used: optical cleavers.

The work of a cleaver of any manufacturer: Fujikura, ILSINTECH, Greenlee, Sumitomo, Jonard, FIS and others is based on the fact that any fiber-optic light guide can be considered as a homogeneous glass rod. The low concentration of dopants used to form the refractive index profile has a negligible effect on the mechanical properties of the core compared to the cladding.
