The Network Protocol Analyzer is a vital part of the network administration toolbox. Analysis of network protocols is a search for truth in network communications. To find out why a network device works this way, and not otherwise, you should use a protocol analyzer to “live” feel the traffic and extract from it the data and protocols transmitted over the network cable.

The network protocol analyzer can be used to:

  • localization of intractable problems;
  • detection and identification of unauthorized software;
  • obtaining information such as baseline traffic patterns and network utilization metrics;
  • identification of unused protocols to remove them from the network;
  • generating traffic for penetration test in order to test the protection system;
  • work with intrusion detection systems (IDS);
  • listening to traffic, i.e. localizing unauthorized traffic using Instant Messaging (IM) or Access Points - (AP) wireless access points;
  • studying the work of the network.
